BUYING A HOME
Congratulations on the first step of buying a home! As a REALTOR®, I can assist you through the entire process of buying a home, starting with your search and continuing right through closing – and beyond.
1) Obtain Bank Pre-Approval
Obtain a copy of your credit report and your FICA score, and if necessary, do what you need to do to improve it. The higher your FICA score, the better your interest rate. You can get this information online, or you can get it from your lender. Contact several lenders, and determine which one will give you the best deal. Once you have approval, request a commitment letter from the lender.
2) Determine Your Price Range and Area(s) in Which You’re Interested
By now, you probably have a good idea of how much home you can afford. This helps you narrow down your home search. You can also begin researching the neighborhoods/communities in which you might want to live. I can assist you with this. Golf or tennis community? Single family home or Condo/Townhouse? Do you plan to pay HOA (Home Owner Association) fees? (Let me know if you have questions about HOA.)
3) Decide which Amenities and Features You Must Have – Which Ones Would Be Nice but not Necessary and What kind of Setting
How many bedrooms and bathrooms do you want? Would you prefer a newer home or an older one with established landscaping? Is the view a priority? Lake, Canal, River or Gulf view? Move-In ready or fixer-upper? Which features would you be willing to give up if you were to find the otherwise perfect home?
4) Communicate Your Desires and Criteria
The more criteria information you share with your REALTOR®, the more he/she can narrow the search. Hence, making your search and home purchase, enjoyable and timely.
